Shinjuku Ward, Tokyo

The Tokyo metropolitan government moved its' offices to west Shinjuku and Shinjuku became the center of Tokyo. This is perhaps the busiest city in Tokyo and never stops changing. Shinjuku station is a major terminal station and busiest station in Japan with many lines, handling over 1.5 million passengers (only JR lines) everyday, In fact, even Tokyo people sometimes get lost.

Around Tokyo Tocho, on the west side of the station and there are many skyscrapers, and there are many department stores around the station attracting huge crowds every day.
Shinjuku-ku extends to Yotsuya to the east, and around Mejiro station to the north. Also, Shinjuku-ku has the largest foreign population - 28,252 foreigners (as of Nov. 1st, 2004) representing 107 nationalities.

Ichigaya
JR Chuo line, subway Nanboku line, Yurakucho line, Shinjuku line stop at Ichigaya station. East part of Shinjuku-ku, and there is the Japanese Defense Agency. French school, Lycee Franco-Japonais is near Kudanshita station, and there is a French community and many luxurious apartments as well.

Tokyo Tocho
Tokyo Tocho is the landmark tower of Nishi-shinjuku, and it has an observation deck on the 45th floor (202m from the ground). Entire Tokyo can be seen from this level. The night view is amazing. Around Tokyo Tocho, there are many high-rise building and luxurious hotels.
Shinjuku Gyoen
58 hectares, 3.5km surroundings. There are French style, England style and Japanese style gardens with beautiful seasonal scenery and flowers.

Kabuki cho
Around Shinjuku Koma Gekijo, there are thousands of bars, Izakaya, and hostess clubs. This city never sleeps and is famous for its' flashing neon lights. Especially, people gather around Shinjuku Koma Theater, as there are many cinemas in the basement or around the square.
Shinjuku Korean Town
Shinjuku Korean Town is around JR Shin-Ookubo station. Shyokuan-dori (street) is lined with Korean restaurants, and food markets.

Shopping
The Odakyu, Mitsukoshi, Isetan, Takashimaya Times Square, and Keio Department Stores, Marui City, and the underground shopping centers in the station are expanding widely.

Shinjuku Koma Theater
It is in the center of Kabukicho, and because of this theater, Kabukicho became such famous place. Songs by famous Enka singers or plays are shown. There are cinemas in the basement.

Tokyo Opera City
15 minute walk from Shinjuku station. It is close to Hatsudai station and is a complex of business, commercial and culture. There is a concert hall and New National Theater, which play many kinds of shows. Also, there are restaurants and shops. In the basement, there is Tezuka Osamu World.
