Minato Ward, Tokyo
Minato Ward is mostly located in the southeast of Tokyo prefecture. It is the 12th area of the 23 wards of Tokyo.
The foreign population of Minato Ward makes up about 10.6% of the overall population - 18,178 people as of January 1, 2005.
The Nationalities of the foreign population represent about 110 countries. About 70% of the entire foreign population is
either European or American. There are many foreign embassies in this central location as well as popular residential areas
such as Hiroo, Azabu, and Shirogane.
Favorite Areas
Omotesando & Aoyama
This area is around the crossing of Aoyama Avenue when you walking on Omotesando street from Meiji Shrine. There are many fashion
designer shops and boutiques as this is one of the fashion centers of the city. Also when you step into the back streets, there
are a lot of restaurants, variety shops, and popular hair salons. Omotesando is near Meiji Shrine and Yoyogi-park. Aoyama is a
great spot for a stroll surrounded by the beautiful greenery of Aoyama Cemetery and Jingu Gaien. It's mainly a commercial
area, but is also a good residential area with good access to the subway - Hanzomon Line, Ginza Line, and Chiyoda Line. Especially
it's popular area among young singles and couples. Also it's the most expensive area for the rent. There are not
many places available, so some good apartments have some reservations and waiting lists.
Azabu
This area is between Roppongi and Hiroo Stations on the Hibiya Subway Line and from Gaien Nishi Avenue to Azabu Juban. There
are a lot of embassies and luxury homes. It's actually has a quiet and cross-cultural atmosphere. Especially, the most
popular area is around Arisugawa Park with many foreigners living in this area. It's the popular area for families because
of the international supermarket and international schools near by. Azabu Juban, which is more popular since the Oedo and Nanboku
lines opened, has an "old-style" shopping street with a cozy atmosphere. It's near Roppongi and Hiroo and
there are many night spots and restaurants, too.
Roppongi
The most famous area is area around Roppongi crossing which is the crossing of Gaien Higashi Avenue, connecting the Nogizaka
and Azabudai Districts, and Roppongi Avenue.
Roppongi Hills is a famous new spot in Tokyo near Roppongi crossing towards the Shibuya district on Roppongi Avenue. It's
convenient because it is directly connected to Roppongi Station on the Hibiya Line from the underground. There are many night
spots such as restaurants and clubs in this area, and you'll see many foreigners.
You'll see many exclusive apartments and houses when you're coming from the main street such as around Toriizaka. On the
other hand, some building development is still continuing, so you'll see a lot of construction and planned construction sites.
The development of the old the Defense Agency site is progressing, and it will become a new land spot to rival Roppongi Hills in 2007.
Moreover, it's popular for exclusive apartments in building complexes connected directly to the station, such as Izumi Garden
at Roppongi 1 chome Station on the Nanboku Line.
Akasaka
Akasaka is around AkasakaMitsuke station on the Marunouchi and Ginza lines, Akasaka station on the Chiyoda line, and Tameike-Sanno
station on the Nanboku and Ginza lines. There are many city hotels and restaurants. It used to have a strong reputation as a town
with many the high-class Japanese-style restaurants, but it's more event halls, shops, and light-hearted restaurants now a days.
There are a lot of office buildings, such as ARK HILLS and Sanno Tower, etc. where foreign capital companies have set up the
offices, too. There are a lot of convenient, high-class high-rise apartment buildings, which are convenient for commuting and
have hotel systems. So it's good for single people and business bachelors.
Shirogane Takanawa
This district is between Meguro and Gaien Nishi Avenue. Another name of Gaien Nishi Avenue is called Platinum Street and there
are a lot of restaurants and cafés.
It became more convenient after Shiroganedai Station on Nanboku line was completed.

The residential area is in Shiroganedai, which is around Seishin Jogakuin (women's school) and south of Shiroganedai station,
continuing to the Takanawa Area. More houses than apartments can be found in this area. When you across Sakurada Avenue (Root No. 1), and
pass New Takanawa Prince Hotel and Takanawa Prince Hotel, you'll be at Shinagawa station.
Shinagawa station is the new gate of Tokyo where the Shinkansen stops. It is a newly developed city, with Shinagawa Grand Commons,
extending from the east exit of Shinagawa station with large business and commercial developments where some of the city's
major companies have offices.
Sightseeing Spots
Tokyo Tower
It's a very famous symbol and spot for sightseeing in Tokyo and the height is 333M. You can see the beautiful city
of Tokyo and Mt. Fuji and the Mt. Tsukuba far away from the observatory. It's beautiful to see the tower when it is
lit up. There is an aquarium, a trick art gallery, and restaurants, etc.
5 minute walk to Akabahashi Station on Oedo Line
7 minutes walk to Kamiyacho Station on Hibiya Line.

Roppongi Hills
It's a landmark of Roppongi. There are some offices, restaurants, shopping, Mori Art Museum, and movie theaters etc. You can see
a view of the sea, from 250 meters above, and 360° from the observatory by the Roppongi Hills tour. Walk to Roppongi
Station on Tokyo Metro, Hibiya Line or Toei Oedo line or walk to Azabu Juban on Tokyo Metro Nanboku line or Toei Oedo Line.

Shiodome SHIO-SITE
A new city within Tokyo, it has recently become known for restaurants, shopping, hotels, Nippon Television Network Corporation, and
many impressive modern buildings housing major corporate headquarters.
Shio district redevelopment is a vast site of about 31 hectares from the old Shiodome freight station site to Hamamatsu-cho
station as set of town district of 11 is a biggest class of redevelopment project in Japan, which aims at the creation of
a multipurpose community where business, commerce, culture, and residences come together in a joint development between
Tokyo and some private organizations.

Arisugawanomiya Memorial Park
It is about 67,000?square meters of land that once belonged to an imperial prince. There is a pond, a plaza, and a playground.
It's popular a very popular spot for weekend recreation. It has a lot of greenery with gardens. Moreover, the metropolitan
central library has an annex in the corner of the site. The National Azabu international supermarket is across the street.
