Tokyo is located in the Kanto region on the island of Honshu and is actually one of Japan's 47 prefectures.
Tokyo the metropolis is made up of 23 municipalities, (wards or"ku"), surrounded by 26 more cities (shi), 5 towns
(cho or machi), and 8 villages ( son or mura).
Tokyo is the nation's most populous urban area with about 12 million people, or about 10 percent of the country's population. (see wikipedia)
The majority of Tokyo's foreign community live in the central part of the city - especailly in Minato and Shibuya wards
